The CoaguChek XS uses a low ISI PT reagent:

• human recombinant thromboplastin has an ISI = 1.0 for greater test accuracy
• compliant with WHO and British Society of Haematology (BSH) recommendations

An ISI of 1.0 means results that:

• closely correlate with laboratory methods
• give you confidence in your decision making you'll know that your patients are on the correct dose and, when a change is indicated, you can be sure that you'll be making the right change of dose

CoaguChek XS and XS Plus unsurpassed precision

An example of the effect of poor precision compared with CoaguChek XS. Precision is measured by the coefficient variation (CV).

CoaguChek XS and XS Plus have a CV of 3.9%, which is comparable to the precision of laboratory analysers, meaning that there will be very little scatter of results around the patient's INR value

Some other coagulometers have a CV of 10% or even 12.5%. This means that with the range of results that could be given with these devices, some results could fall outside the therapeutic range

To demonstrate the importance of precision, let's take a patient with a target INR range of 2.5 3.5, whose INR is 3.0. If a device with a CV of 10% (± 2 SDs) is used for testing, a reading of 3.6 could be given (outside therapeutic range).This could lead to a reduction in warfarin dose and the potential clinical complications that could result.
