Defibrillators

When choosing a defibrillator it is important to understand the difference between an fully automatic and semi-automatic defibrillator/AED.

All AEDs automatically analyse the heart rhythm to determine if a shock is required. If a shock is required a semi-automatic defibrillator prompts the AED user to press a shock button. A fully automatic defibrillator is designed to give a shock, if required, entirely automatically - without the need to push a button.

Fully automatic AED devices are designed to help those who may hesitate during a cardiac arrest emergency, thus reducing delays that may be the difference between life and death.
