Pulse OximetersPulse oximeters indirectly measure the oxygen saturation of a patient's blood. Pulse oximeters are used in settings where a patient can have an unstable oxygenation rate, including unpressurised aircraft, intensive care, emergency rooms, operating recorvery and hospital wards. They provide an assessment of the current level of oxygenation for the patient, to determine the effectiveness of current oxygen treatment and any possible need for supplemental oxygen. Important NoticeWhen buying a pulse oximeter it is important to consider the age groups that you will be intending to use the device with. Fingertip pulse oximeter devices are generally better suited for use with adults. This is due to both the weight of the device, and the larger aperture of the hole to insert the finger. Whilst these devices can be used on infants, and neonates, it will be difficult to get an accurate reading. If you are intending to use a pulse oximeter with infants and/or neonates, we recommend a device like the cms60c pulse oximeter which comes with a specific probe designed for use with infants, as well as a probe for use with adults. |
